Should you buy organic products?
Purchase local and organic products if you can afford it. If you are tight on money and can not always buy organics then prioritize your purchase to what the EWG terms the “dirty dozen”: peaches, bananas, nectarines, oranges, carrots, celery, pears, sweet bell peppers, cherries, onions, lettuce and imported grapes. Such delicate fruits and vegetables, including asparagus and broccoli, also need more pesticides to fend off bugs relative to more hardy plants.
You’ll definitely find a higher price tag for certain products if you choose to go organic, as many as 10 percent to 50 percent more than traditional foods. If you are the type of person that thinks of what goes in your food during processing and can afford organic, the organic product is the one for you. Some people intuitively believe that products containing synthetic pesticides including fertilizers, including trace hormone and antibiotic levels, are likely to have negative health consequences, even though it has not been established.
